- Emerging manufacturing technologies a support for the incoming industrial revolution
The manufacturing world has been profoundly changed by the previous industrial revolutions. The early twenty-first century has already brought another change, resulting in a shift to mass customization and even mass personalization.
We are currently witnessing the beginning of this shift, however, and many manufacturing companies still use “assemble-to-order” configurations in order to create standardized products for their customers. The last decades have brought enormous changes in the manufacturing environment. The increasing use of cheap sensors and actuators communicating through a network, most frequently Internet, have all been breakthrough innovations, enabling real-time connection between systems, machines, tools, workers, customers and products. It has led to an impressive quantity of data generated by these connect objects, and this raw material has shaped the identity of the 21st century, allowing the development of a new production paradigm called personalized production, which allows the customer to become involved since the product design phase. Manufacturing changed into mass production due to industrial revolutions. There is an emerging production paradigm, brought about by the new industrial revolution. The focus falls either on smart manufacturing or additive manufacturing, which results in an ideal production system with the advantages of both economies of scale and scope. Faced with so many changes, manufacturing industries have started to combine manufacturing per se with information technology, in order to increase their competitiveness. Virtual reality has come to be used in product development processes in manufacturing enterprises, helping to achieve rapid consolidation of information and decision-making through visualization and experience. From the organizational semiotic perspective, a new socio-cyber-physical system-based manufacturing can be proposed, with two models: wisdom manufacturing and social manufacturing, which are the logical extension of smart manufacturing and additive manufacturing, respectively. This edition of the conference aims to provide a forum for researchers and practitioners to review the recent developments in the area of emerging manufacturing technologies and to identify possible trends for further development, as well as to attract industrial partners interested in the application of these new development dimensions.-
We are looking forward to welcome you in Tîrgu Mureș!
