It is a great honour for members of the academic and research staff from University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Sciences and Technology of Târgu Mureș - Faculty of Engineering in collaboration with Romanian Academy of Technical Sciences to invite you to the joint International Conference Interdisciplinarity in Engineering - INTER-ENG 2019 and the Work-based training approach in the field of Industry 4.0 for competitive European Industry Conference - Induce 4.0. The conference will be jointly organized and hosted by the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management and the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of “Petru Maior” University of Tîrgu-Mureș.
The main theme of the Conference is announced as:
- “Industry 4.0” the development of a new generation of smart factories grounded on the manufacturing and assembly process digitalization
The conference scope is to provide a professional and scientific forum for engineers and research scientists from universities, research centers and industry to present research works, contributions and recent developments as well as current practices in engineering.

- “Industry 4.0” a comprehensive transformation of the industrial production through the merging of information and communication technologies with traditional manufacturing processes
The manufacturing environment radically changed over the last decades. Breakthrough innovations as the ubiquitous use of cheap sensors and actuators communicating through a network, enables the real-time connection between systems, machines, tools, workers, customers and products defining the so-called Internet of Things. The enormous quantity of data called “Big data” which is generated by these connected objects represents the raw material of 21st century.
With the advent of new technologies, manufacturing factories are already facing the 4th industrial revolution or Industry 4.0, where computers and automation come together in an entirely new way, with robotics connected remotely to computer systems equipped with machine learning algorithms that can learn and control the robotics, leading to drastic structural changes in operations executed by human operators. Smart factories of Industry 4.0 era are distinguished by an increased production flexibility thought the use of real-time reconfigurable machines that allow the profitable personalized production of products in batches as small as the unique item. The digital transition alters requirements for employees across all steps of the value chain– from development on through production to sales and brings the need of completely new skills in employees. According to the New Skills Agenda for Europe “Work in industry at all levels from operators to engineers and administrative staff will increasingly consist of designing, maintaining and supervising intelligent machines that assist in the performance of tasks. This will require different skill sets. Future jobs will require an appropriate mix of basic, soft and technical skills, notably the digital and business-specific skills that education and training systems are not yet fully addressing. Industry has an active role to play in the definition and training of the key skill sets and competences.” According to PwC Global survey, regarding Industry 4.0 among SMEs, respondents report their biggest implementation challenge isn’t choosing the right technology, it’s the lack of digital culture and skills in their organisation. Taking into account the aforementioned, with the 4th industrial revolution already taking place, manufacturing factories are facing the need of re-shaping production processes, which on the other hand requires new skills and knowledge of the employees in the “factory of future”. To do that, factories need to be equipped with adequate training tools providing the technical knowledge on the topic of Industry 4.0 as well as innovative training approaches that will enable them to nurture the necessary skills in their current and future employees.-
